Eating and exercise are part of life's pleasures, and can help you and your loved ones stay healthy. Making the right choices can also help protect you from certain diseases.

The French national nutrition and health program offers nutritional recommendations that are fully compatible with the notion of pleasure and conviviality.

Every food family has its place on your plate, every day. All are essential for a balanced diet, but some should be limited, while others should be favored.

What can you do in practice?

Eat at least 5 fruits and vegetables a day, whether raw, cooked, plain, prepared, fresh, frozen or canned;

Eat bread and cereal products, potatoes and pulses at every meal, according to your appetite (with a preference for wholegrain products);

Eat 3 dairy products a day (milk, yoghurt, cheese), giving preference to variety;

Eat meat, fish (and other fish products) or eggs alternately 1 or 2 times a day; remember to eat fish at least twice a week;

Limit added fats (butter, oil, cream, etc.) and fatty products (aperitifs, pastries, etc.);

Limit sugar and sweet products (soft drinks, sweetened beverages, confectionery, chocolate, puddings, etc.);

Limit salt consumption, preferring iodized salt;

Drink plenty of water, with and without meals.

Drink no more than 2 glasses of alcoholic beverage per day for women and 3 glasses for men (1 10-cl glass of wine is equivalent to 1 half beer or 1 6-cl glass of a 20-degree alcoholic beverage such as port, or 3 cl of a 40-45-degree alcoholic beverage such as whisky or pastis).

Engage in daily physical activity to achieve at least the equivalent of 30 minutes of brisk walking a day (take the stairs rather than the elevator, walk or cycle rather than drive whenever possible...).
